"When did I last change the water?"

  • You know weekly changes matter, but a week goes by fast. "I did it recently" turns out to mean three weeks ago, and the algae on the glass is the first to notice.
  • The filter rinse, the glass, the water tests: each runs on its own rhythm, and none of them is written down anywhere.
  • With two or three tanks it gets worse. The shrimp tank was done on Sunday, the community tank maybe on Wednesday, and the betta tank nobody remembers.
  • Most aquarium apps want you to catalogue every fish, create an account and pay $5 a month just to be reminded about a bucket of water.

How Siphon keeps you on schedule

One number on the home screen

A large count of days since the last water change and the date of the next one. The water in the drawn tank clears after a change and gets murkier as the due date approaches.

One tap to log a change

Tap "Changed water today" and the count restarts. Forgot to log it on the day? You can fix the date.

Your interval, your percentage

Every 3, 7, 10, 14 or 30 days, or any interval you like, plus the share of water you change. Litres or gallons.

Reminders before the tank goes cloudy

A notification on the day the change is due and a heads-up the day before.

Care tasks and water log (Pro)

Filter rinse, glass cleaning, water tests, plant trimming, media replacement or your own task, each with its own interval. Log pH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and temperature with trend charts and safe-range hints.

Several tanks, widgets, calculator (Pro)

Unlimited tanks with separate schedules, Home and Lock Screen widgets, and a calculator for tank volume from inside dimensions, litres to siphon and buckets per change.

Free for one tank, Pro for more

Free: one tank, the days-since counter and next due date, your own interval and change percentage, one-tap logging with date correction, a reminder on the day and the day before, tank types (community, planted, saltwater, shrimp), litres or gallons, and your most recent history entries. Siphon Pro costs $0.99 per month or $4.99 once, forever: unlimited tanks, care tasks with their own intervals, the water parameter log with charts, the tank calculator, Home and Lock Screen widgets, and full history with simple stats. The monthly plan renews until you cancel it in App Store settings.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I change my aquarium water?

For most freshwater community tanks, about 25% once a week is a sound starting point. Small or heavily stocked tanks may need more, lightly stocked planted tanks less. A nitrate test just before each change tells you whether your routine is enough.

Is Siphon free?

Yes, for one tank. The free version tracks days since the last water change, lets you set your interval and percentage, and reminds you on the day and the day before. Siphon Pro ($0.99 per month or $4.99 once) adds unlimited tanks, care tasks, the water log, the calculator and widgets.

Can Siphon remind me to clean the filter?

Yes, in Siphon Pro. You can add care tasks such as filter rinse, glass cleaning, water testing, plant trimming or media replacement, each with its own interval and reminder. The free version covers water changes only.

Do I need an account?

No. Siphon has no account, no server and no analytics. Everything is stored on your iPhone and the app works offline.

Does it work for saltwater, planted and shrimp tanks?

Yes. You choose the tank type (community, planted, saltwater or shrimp), and Siphon adjusts its colours and hints. The safe-range hints in the Pro water log also differ, for example for pH in a saltwater tank.

Can I use gallons instead of litres?

Yes, Siphon supports both litres and gallons.

Does Siphon test my water?

No. Siphon is a reminder and a log. You test the water with your own kit and, in Pro, record the results to see trends. It does not replace testing or watching your fish.

What if I forgot to log a water change?

You can correct the date of the last change, so the count and the next reminder stay accurate.
