Frequently asked questions
Where is my binder stored?
Only on your iPhone, in the app's own container, protected by iOS file encryption. There is no account and no cloud copy. If you lose the phone and have no backup and no exported PDF, the binder is gone with it — so print it or hand a password-protected PDF to one trusted person.
Does Manila store passwords?
No, and it never asks for them. The digital-life chapter records where your passwords are kept (a password manager, an envelope, a person) and who can help. Keep it that way: the binder is meant to be found.
How do I export or print the PDF?
On the Home screen tap “Build the binder”. The free version shows a preview with a SAMPLE watermark. With Manila Pro you can share or print the full PDF, choose the paper size, decide whether to include photos, and set an optional password on the file.
How do I pass the PDF to a family member safely?
With Pro, set a password when exporting, send the file by AirDrop or another channel you trust, and tell the password separately — in person or by phone. Without the password the PDF cannot be opened.
I forgot the PDF password.
The password is set on the file at export time and is not stored by Manila, so we cannot recover it. Simply export a new PDF from the app with a new password.
How do I lock the app with Face ID?
Settings → “Lock with Face ID” (or Touch ID on devices that have it). iOS will ask for permission the first time, and the app then asks every time it opens. If Face ID fails, iOS offers your device passcode.
Reminders don't arrive.
Check iPhone Settings → Notifications → Manila and make sure alerts are allowed, and that “Remind me to review” is on in Manila's Settings. The free version schedules one reminder a month after you start; with Pro you choose every 3, 6 or 12 months and also get a heads-up a month before a document with an expiry date in the binder expires.
How do I add the widget?
Home Screen: long-press an empty spot → “+” → Manila. Lock Screen: long-press the Lock Screen → Customize → tap the widget area → Manila. Widgets show the binder's completion, the next review date and the emergency contact, and are part of Manila Pro.
How do I add a binder about a parent or partner?
Open the binder list and tap “Add a binder”. The free version includes one binder; several binders are part of Manila Pro.
How do I restore Manila Pro on a new phone?
Open Settings in Manila and tap “Restore purchase” while signed in with the same Apple Account you bought it with. Manila Pro is a one-time purchase ($2.99) and never renews.
How do I delete everything?
Settings → “Delete everything on this device”. This removes all binders, photos and settings. Deleting the app does the same.
