Frequently asked questions
Is Trichrome a diagnosis?
No. Trichrome is a screening tool. Phone screens differ in colour and results can vary. For a medical assessment, see an eye-care professional.
How do I get the most reliable result?
Turn screen brightness up, switch off Night Shift and True Tone, remove colour filters or tinted glasses, sit indoors out of direct sunlight and hold the phone at arm's length. If a result surprises you, repeat the test another time.
What is free and what is in the purchase?
Test I (number plates) is free. A one-time purchase unlocks the other eight tests, the summary report and the "See as" simulator forever. There is no subscription.
How do I restore my purchase on a new iPhone?
Open Settings in Trichrome and tap "Restore purchase" while signed in with the same Apple account. Family members can use the purchase through Family Sharing.
My results show different types in different tests. Why?
Each test looks at colour vision from a different angle and has its own limits, and a mild defect may show up in some tests but not in others. The summary report combines all your results. If they disagree, an eye-care professional can clarify with calibrated tests.
The camera in "See as" shows nothing.
Allow camera access: iPhone Settings → Trichrome → Camera. You can also use "Sample" or pick a photo instead. The camera only shows a live preview; nothing is recorded.
Can my child take the test?
Test III uses large shapes instead of digits for children who cannot read numbers yet. Sit with the child, do not prompt, and see a paediatric eye doctor if anything worries you.
How do I delete my results?
Settings in Trichrome → "Delete all results". Results are stored only on your iPhone; deleting the app removes them too.
Are these the real Ishihara plates?
No. Trichrome's tests are modelled on published clinical methods, but all plates and stimuli are generated by the app; they are not copies of printed test books.
