Frequently asked questions

What is a klyukalo?

A klyukalo is a made-up object from a Russian army joke. A soldier who calls himself a “klyukalo maker” spends three days in the workshop building a strange piece of metal, and when the general throws it into a lake it sinks with the sound “klyuk”.

What is the difference between “Klyuk” and “Long Klyuk”?

“Klyuk” plays one short sound per tap. “Long Klyuk” is turned on and off with a tap and loops while it is on; each repeat also counts towards the total.

Is the app paid? Are there ads?

No. iKlyukalo is free, with no ads and no in-app purchases.

Does iKlyukalo work on Apple Watch?

Yes. The watch has both buttons and the weekly counter. Taps on the watch sync with the iPhone and are added to the shared total. If the numbers differ, open the app on both devices with the iPhone nearby and Bluetooth on.

How do I klyuk from the Home Screen?

Add the iKlyukalo widget: touch and hold an empty area of the Home Screen, tap “Edit” → “Add Widget” and choose iKlyukalo. The small widget has the “Klyuk” button, the medium one has both. The sound plays without opening the app.

When does the counter reset?

The counter tracks the current calendar week and resets when a new one starts. Last week’s result stays on screen, and on Monday morning you get a notification with the total.

I don’t get the Monday notification.

Check that notifications for iKlyukalo are allowed in iOS Settings → Notifications. The report is only scheduled if you tapped at least once during the week.

There is no sound.

The app plays sound even in silent mode. Turn up the media volume and check whether the audio is going to connected headphones or a Bluetooth speaker.

Can I share my result?

Yes. Below the buttons is “Share your result”: send your weekly count to Telegram, Facebook, X or via the iOS share sheet. Nothing is posted until you confirm it in that app.

Is there an English version?

No, iKlyukalo is Russian-only: without knowing the joke, the gag does not work anyway.
